OakVet Animal Hospital

Oakland, California

10,870 sf | .34 acres

OakVet transformed an existing two-story office building in the heart of Oakland into a specialty and emergency veterinary hospital, creating the city’s first American Animal Hospital Association–accredited facility of its kind. Located at a busy intersection beneath overhead freeways, the project involved a full interior remodel with new walls, restrooms, plumbing, and an added elevator, carefully coordinated to meet the technical demands of veterinary medicine while maintaining efficient circulation for staff, patients, and animals. The interior reflects Oakland’s urban character, blending graffiti-inspired art, street textures, and “stacked box” forms with durable, high-performance finishes. Clinical spaces—including surgery, oncology, imaging, and radiotherapy—are organized within a flexible, efficient layout, supported by custom millwork, furnishings, and integrated systems. The result is a visually engaging, community-focused hospital that connects to the city’s energy while delivering a high level of care for pets and their owners.
